Info for Churches - About Us

Baptist Church Builders of Texas  (Church Builders for short) is a group of Christians, who, by God’s leading, go together each summer and construct one church building for a needy church somewhere in the United States .  We also do other projects throughout the year.

A little about us:

Our group is a little different than most.  We are a family oriented group that takes projects that most groups won't touch.  Most construction groups require specific plans, but we do not.  We want the church to design the plans that will best suit their needs.   We have some plans and ideas that we can suggest, but ultimately, it is up to the church.  But please note, we DO NOT come in after someone else has raised a metal building and finish it out.

We are geared to start from the slab up.  We raise the walls, set the trusses, deck and put on felt/shingles, put on the exterior siding or get it ready for brick, install windows/doors, install the soffit and facia, do electrical wiring, help with the duct work for air conditioning, build the "stage" or platform/baptistry/choir loft, build cabinets, and we even insulate and sheetrock and have even taped, bedded and painted.
We do not guarantee any stage of work to be done, we only offer 5 days of work by our Main Crew, whatever size that turns out to be.  We are not responsible for delays caused by weather, material shortage or inspections.

We ARE set in when we go to do a project.  So far it has worked for us to have our main crew the 3rd FULL week in July.  The "early crew" would arrive the week before and make sure building materials are on site and start getting things prepared for the main crew.  Then people from all over start pouring in, we never know how many… but it’s always enough.  Sometimes two to three hundred...and we have our Sunday night meeting on the slab that includes worship, introductions & instructions for our group as well as the local church body.

The Main Crew starts work at 7:00 am Monday morning after a devotional, instructions and prayer.  That’s when the fun starts!!  Walls go up so fast you can’t believe it!!  Meanwhile, our kitchen crew has begun cooking for the group.  We usually rent a school's kitchen or borrow a large church's facilities and they prepare two meals a day for the group for only $25.00 per person for the week's meals. Kids under 10 eat free as does the local church members who work on the project that week.

Our group provides our own accommodations (we stay in motels and RV Parks) so that the church isn't out anything...all we ask is that you have your land paid for, have plans that have been approved , licenses obtained, inspectors lined up for that week, have financing in place (if necessary)  and have a slab down and materials on site when we arrive. We will need the Chairman of your Building Committee  We don't ask you to pay for anything for our group like most groups do.

Now that you know a little about our group, if you are interested in requesting help from our group, here is what you need to do:

First, you fill out the application and send a page with floor plans printed on it.  Not the whole set of plans, just a sketch page of the basic floor plans.  Get that to us and let us take a look at it.  Pray about it.  If things look good, we will call and visit with you for more information.  We will ask you to send us a full set of plans.  Next, we continue to visit with you over phone or by e-mail.  If we are feeling strongly that this could possibly be where God is leading us to, we will schedule an on-site visit by our leadership team.  We would at that time meet with a building committee along with Pastor and other leadership.  We would visit hotels, RV parks to get information for our group.  We would look at any school or other church kitchen that we might be able to rent for that week.  We would be then make a decision about whether or not this is where we will go.

The projects from the past couple years have websites that you can go to and look at and see their buildings. The first one was in 2006 in Prairieville , LA .  Their website is www.4fellowship.org  This project was approximately 14,000 sq. ft. which included a multi-purpose building (gym), educational space, and a octagon building out front...  We didn't get to get as far along on that building as we'd hoped because they didn't have the foundation poured before we arrive.  They poured it on Monday morning while our crew put walls together on the ground to be raised Tuesday.  So it put us behind...and besides it was southern Louisiana ...it was hot and humid!!!  But we got alot done...hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of labor.

The second project was in Galloway OH in 2007 in which we raised a building with over 7,000 sq. ft in it.  They have well documented their trip on their website www.cng.org   Click on BUILDING then on PICTURES.  Page 6 is when our early crew arrive.  Page 9 is where we leave.   We had approx. 200 Church Builders and over 75 local members working on the project during the week we were there.
